For demonstrating the characteristic spectra of Iodine. Iodine has sufficient vapor pressure at room temperature so that this tube can turn on without a carrier gas. The spectrum provides a nice band spectrum and the tube can be used to illustrate the difference between the line spectrum from, for example, a noble gas and a molecular spectrum.
The tube is to be used with the 285570 spectral tube holder, which also includes a controllable power supply (use 220 V AC).
The spectral tube has a voltage of between 3 and 6 kV - the operating voltage, however, is significantly lower. Spectral tube power supply supplies the tube with a constant current, thus regulating the operating voltage automatically.
The power level should be set as low as possible for sustaning the life of the tube, and the tube should therefore not run continuously. Therefore, when using high current levels, it should be considered to hold breaks in order to allow the tube to cool down.
Dimensions: Length approx. 224 mm, capillary tube Ø 6 x 80 mm.
