Waves and light

On every experiment there is an indication of which grade we have deemed it suitable for. However, this is always subject to the teacher's discretion. We encourage you to look both above and below your classrooms grade level.

Waves

Resonance in an air column (132810-EN)
Investigating standing waves in the air column in a closed-end. Grade: 10-12

Resonance - standing waves on a string (132860-EN)
A study of standing waves on a tight string, with a focus on the frequency of the harmonics. Grade: 10-12

Light

The inverse square law (133710-EN)
A precision demonstration of the inverse square law, using an incandescent lamp and a broadband light sensor. Grade: 11+

Stefan-Boltzmann's law (133720-EN)
Demonstrates that the power of the light emitted from a tungsten wire is proportional to the absolute temperature to the power of four. Grade: 11+

The speed of light (133890-EN)
Measure time of flight and distance travelled by the light from which the speed can be calculated. Grade: 10-12
